A mobile solution, JAMBrite App, has been introduced to support prospective candidates in their preparation for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
A former Executive Director of Skye Bank Plc, Ms Abimbola Izu, who is the brain behind JAMBrite App, said that the mobile application would boost the performance of students during the examinations.
She said that admission into higher institutions of learning was a major challenge for most school leavers, but stressed that statistics showed that universities and polytechnics had no capacity to offer admit all intending students.
Izu said that this had been a source of concern to students and parents, as students scrambled for the few spaces available in the tertiary institutions.
“In 2016, for instance, out of about 1.5 million students that applied for placement, less than 30 per cent were lucky to secure admission. This year, it is estimated that two million students will apply for the limited spaces available. The odds thus seem to be getting higher yearly,” she said.
Izu stated that the anxiety of most parents and students hinged on securing a slot, saying that in actualising the goal, some parents engaged private tutors for their children, “while others enrolled them at tutorial centres.”
She also said, “While these efforts are, no doubt, good, they are conventional forms of tuition and preparation. However, experience has shown that young people now learn faster with less conventional, creative, innovative and fun-learning tools.”
In line with this, she declared that some organisations had discovered the need to leverage modern technology to prepare students for their examinations in a fun and creative way.
“One of the devices developed by such education-learning centres in Nigeria today is Jambrite, a newly released mobile educational app,” she added.
